Georgie’s debut release Flightless is an EP featuring anthemic riffs, punchy basslines and rich synth textures alongside piano and live drums by Barney Sage. The EP was co-produced and mixed by Douglas Cave.

Each track describes a form of movement, but also relates to the point in time in which it was written; from the transitional period of ‘Move Out’ to the sudden lockdown of ‘Stasis’. ‘Flightless’ reflects the piece’s waddling, penguin-like bass line and was written on the floor during recovery from foot surgery, whilst ‘Whirled’ depicts the frustration with the feeling of going round and round in circles like a spiraling vortex. ‘Orbit’ begins with a sense of ascending momentum before reaching a point where the music seems to float, just as an effort to take a step forward in life can be halted, dragged in circles, and lose energy.

Georgie is inspired by the bold and experimental approach to pop production by SOPHIE; the glitchy, synth-pop style of Charlie XCX’s albums How I’m Feeling Now and Crash; and the explorative synthesis and ethereal sound-scaping of Oneohtrix Point Never.
